Why I provide at-home pet euthanasia

My passion for veterinary medicine started a long time ago. When I was around 6 years old, I visited the veterinary school at the University of Georgia. I was in awe of how animals could be helped for a variety of ailments. Since that time, it was my dream to join this amazing field. As I moved through my career as a general practitioner for cats and dogs, I realized that a new passion that I had discovered was end-of-life care. This is such an important service that we as veterinarians can provide to our patients. Through this, we are able to help manage beloved pets as they are nearing the end of their lives and provide a dignified and peaceful goodbye for them and their pet parents.

What pet parents are saying

While we were 100% certain that our dog was dying and needed to be euthanized, it seemed strange in hindsight that Dr Izlar didn’t examine her directly or ask to see her medical records before performing the procedure. Isn’t that part of a doctor’s responsibility to confirm that the dog is terminally ill before going forward? She was very direct, explained the process and was respectful toward us. I think we just aren’t familiar with how another vet would have handled the same situation if we sowed up at their office and asked them to euthanize our dog. I pray this is our only experience like this.
