We needed to say goodbye to our handsome boy of 18 years, and it was honestly the hardest day of my life. We wanted to do it at home to make things easy on him and us. She was gentle, didnt try to distract us with small talk, explained everything calmly and fully. She was so assured and calm that it made us feel all that much better. She had the strength we needed to pull through for our daughter.
We had two other dogs with us and they were able to be there for their sisters passing. Dr. Kristina was able to explain all the signs to watch out for and what could be expected from our other dogs not just through the process but over the next few weeks as we grieve. Some of it I expected and other things I learned for the first time and was glad that someone had told me so i could better care for my surviving sons.
Having the other dogs with her and ti smell her at the end, that was the most important thing to us. The second most important thing was to not give our dog extra stress. Her final moments were pain free for the first time in months, being held by her family in her own bed and with her brothers by her side.
