If your selected cremation service includes receiving your pet’s ashes, your vet will clearly explain the process for returning your pet's ashes and provide an estimated timeline for their return.
You have the option to have your vet respectfully transport your pet to the crematorium. Depending on your preference, your pet’s ashes can either be lovingly returned to you or respectfully spread with other pets.
Note: If you choose to have your pet’s ashes returned to you, your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes at the time of your appointment.

If you want to bury your pet in a cemetery, you will need to choose and make arrangements with a local pet cemetery before the euthanasia appointment. Please be sure to let your CodaPet vet know if you have planned for such a burial.
Note: Your vet can only assist with cremation options, and does not handle burials of any type.
If you have a larger pet, your vet may need the help of a friend or family member. When your vet contacts you prior to your appointment, talk to them about options and limitations, and they will inform you of any extra cost for your situation.
Options for your pet's return home and memorabilia depend on your local provider. Your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes and let you know if there are additional fees for urn delivery.
During in-home pet euthanasia, your veterinarian will first ensure your pet is comfortable by administering a gentle sedative, allowing your pet to relax peacefully. Once fully sedated, the veterinarian will give the euthanasia solution, which painlessly stops your pet's heart within moments. You'll have as much time as needed to say goodbye, and afterward, your veterinarian will discuss aftercare options with you, such as cremation or burial arrangements. Knowing when it’s time often involves observing your pet’s quality of life closely. Key signs include persistent pain, loss of appetite, decreased mobility, difficulty breathing, and loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed. Trust your instincts—if your pet has more bad days than good, it might be time. Discussing these concerns with your veterinarian can also provide valuable clarity.

Dr. Torres made this tragic moment for our family a much easier transition than we ever expected. She was so gentle with Nelli. When she arrived she explained what to expect. She encouraged us to live on Nelli and talk to her during the procedure. She made paw prints and nose prints for us and a key chain with Nelli’s hair. She was very kind to our entire family. We would recommend her to anyone that found themselves needing to make the hard decision of a humane euthanasia for their pet.
Our beloved furry baby crossed the rainbow bridge after 17 beautiful years with us. Knowing how difficult this moment would be, we chose at-home euthanasia with Dr. Cassandra Lewis—and it was the most compassionate decision we could have made. She was incredibly kind, gentle, and respectful, guiding us through every step with care and empathy. Despite the heartbreak, she created a peaceful and comforting environment that meant so much to our family. From the bottom of my heart, if you ever have to make this difficult decision for your pet, I wholeheartedly recommend reaching out to her. She truly makes an unbearable moment feel a little more bearable.
Dr. Laura was amazing dealing with this situation. She was super informative throughout the whole process and made sure our sweet girl was comfortable throughout. I highly recommend.
Dr. Causey showed genuine caring for our dog Luna. Dr. Causey examined her and agreed it was time for her to pass. That eased our anxiety over the timing of this event. Dr. Causey was very gentle and loving to Luna during the whole process. Even after Luna had passed Dr. Causey adjusted her position so Luna looked more comfortable for the trip back to Dr. Causey’s office for cremation. Dr. Causey informed us what to expect at all times during the event. It is truly a gift to be able to hold our beloved pet and her feel our love as she passed.
We are so thankful Dr. Gary helped us with our fifteen-year-old cat, Buddy. His kindness and compassion made a heartbreaking event a little bit easier. He’s genuine and caring and made sure we had time to say and do all that we needed to before Buddy passed. We are forever grateful.
Dr. Jem Scott-Emuakpor is a true credit to her profession. We all dread this decision and question ourselves every step of the process and there is no one better to guide you than Dr. Jem Scott-Emuakpor. We had set up the appointment and I panicked, Dr. Jem called me and not only answered all my questions and concerns but did so with so much care and understanding. When the day came she showed so much care and concern for not only Caroline, my husband and myself but also our other 2 dogs and how they could be feeling. While I will be forever heartbroken and miss my sweet Caroline, I am at peace because of Dr. Jem Scott-Emuakpor.
