Initial Contact
Your vet will reach out to you prior to your appointment to answer any questions you may have and address any special circumstances or concerns.
At-Home Assessment
Your vet will make an assessment of your pet’s health and quality of life to provide guidance to ensure your decision is informed.
Pre-Medication
The veterinarian will administer an initial sedative or anesthetic to help your pet relax and become pain-free, ensuring they are comfortable and at ease.
Euthanasia
The veterinarian will first ensure your pet is fully sedated before gently administering anesthesia which will quickly slow down your pet’s respiratory system until the heart finally stops beating. In most cases, this process takes less than a minute.
Travel Fee
This reflects the cost associated with the distance a licensed vet will need to travel should your location fall outside their regular service area.
Platform Fee
A small percentage of the total supports vets with non-medical items, allowing them to spend more time caring for pets.

The cost will vary based on your choice of cremation services with or without your pet's ashes returned. A variety of keepsakes are available depending on your cremation selection and vet.

Questions you may have
Your total at-home pet euthanasia cost includes three core fees: the in-home euthanasia service fee, a platform fee, and any travel fee for your location. Optional add-ons (cremation and memorial keepsakes) are priced separately. You'll see the full breakdown before you confirm your home visit.
The three core fees are always included:
- Euthanasia service fee — the in-home visit and the procedure itself (sedation, euthanasia, and time to say goodbye)
- Platform fee — covers booking, vet coordination, and support
- Travel fee — applies based on your distance from the attending vet. Some locations have none
Optional, priced separately:
- Cremation — private/individual (ashes returned) or communal (not returned)
- Memorial keepsakes — paw prints, fur clippings, urns
- Urgent or after-hours appointments may carry a surcharge

Yes. If you’ve chosen cremation, your vet will respectfully transport your pet from your home to a partner crematorium after the appointment. You don’t need to do anything. Your vet will coordinate the transport, cremation, and return of your pet’s ashes.
What to expect:
• Your vet brings everything needed for a safe and dignified transport
• You decide how much time you want before they leave. There is never a rush
• If you've chosen private or individual cremation, ashes are typically returned within 2-3 weeks. This varies by vet
• For larger pets (greater than 100lbs), your vet may ask for help to move your pet with dignity — they will let you know if they need your help prior to the process
Your pet cremation options fall into three paths: cremation with your pet's ashes returned to you (private, individual, or aquamation), communal cremation where ashes aren't returned, or handling your pet's remains yourself. Available options vary by your local veterinarian. Regardless of your choice, your vet coordinates all aftercare with their local crematorium or aquamation partner.
Options where ashes are returned to you
- Private cremation — your pet is cremated alone, so the ashes returned are solely your pet's
- Individual cremation — pets are cremated in a large chamber but kept separated by physical barriers, so your pet's ashes stay identifiable and are returned in an urn
- Individual aquamation (select vets) — a gentle, water-based alternative to flame cremation where your pet’s ashes are returned in an urn
- The most common optional keepsakes when ashes are returned are paw prints, fur clippings, ink prints, and custom urns — availability varies by vet
Options where ashes are not returned
- Communal (group) cremation — your pet is cremated respectfully alongside other pets, and the crematorium scatters their ashes in their local grounds. Typically, this is the lower-cost option.
- Group aquamation (select vets) — a communal water-based process where your pet’s ashes are respectfully scattered by the aquamation partner locally
Handling your pet yourself
- Your vet leaves your pet with you to arrange aftercare, such as a home burial. Please review your local laws and regulations when choosing a final resting place.
Your vet coordinates respectful transportation and return of your pet’s ashes whenever an "ashes returned" option is chosen. The exact options and pricing are shown when you schedule a visit with a local veterinarian.
We allow cancellations at no fee to you for appointments canceled more than 4 hours before your start time. If you cancel your appointment less than 4 hours before your appointment time you will be subject to a cancellation fee of $100.
Your vet reserves time in their schedule exclusively for you, so we ask you to cancel as soon as you are able so that your vet may help another family in need.

If your pet passes naturally before your scheduled euthanasia appointment, you may cancel at any time prior to your vet's arrival without incurring any fees. If you'd still like assistance arranging transportation for cremation, you can request your vet provide a deceased pet pick-up and cremation services.

If your pet passes away before your scheduled appointment, contact your CodaPet vet immediately. We can still come to facilitate aftercare — transport, cremation, and return of ashes — so you don't have to handle those arrangements yourself during such a painful moment.
What to do right now:

We'll convert your scheduled euthanasia appointment into an aftercare visit. The visit fee is typically reduced when the procedure itself isn't needed. Cremation and memorial options remain the same as if your pet had passed during the appointment.
Yes, your vet will offer a variety of meaningful memorabilia you can purchase if you choose to request the return of your pet's ashes. After selecting your vet and preferred cremation option, you'll have the opportunity to review and choose from available keepsake options. Note: You may also choose to add the memorabilia or change your mind about your choice at the time of your appointment.
In the case of wanting a private burial, if your city/county regulations allow, you can choose to bury your pet. Please check local regulations to see if this is legal in your area.
If you want to bury your pet in a cemetery, you will need to choose and make arrangements with a local pet cemetery before the euthanasia appointment. Please be sure to let your CodaPet vet know if you have planned for such a burial.

If you have a larger pet, your vet may need the help of a friend or family member. When your vet contacts you prior to your appointment, talk to them about options and limitations, and they will inform you of any extra cost for your situation.
Options for your pet's return home and memorabilia depend on your local provider. Your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes and let you know if there are additional fees for urn delivery.

It's the service you never want but when it comes I was so thankful for Dr. Todd. She was so compassionate and patient with us. Our sweet cat was able to cross the rainbow bridge in the comfort of his home without the stress of being moved to a vets office in his final hours. She even brought his ashes back to us. I can't thank her enough for this. We also had to move his appointment up and she was quick to move to his needs. I hope I don't need their services for a long time for my other fur babies but I will use her again in the very, very distant future.
Dr. Wratten is very compassionate and took the time to explain everything during the process. She definitely helped make the experience a little easier. I highly recommend Dr. Wratten.
Dr. Jen was wonderful at a very sad time. She was soft spoken and compassionate, slowly explaining every step in the process. She was sure that Mollie was comfortable with her and not subjected to any undo stress. For anyone who needs to make this very difficult for, I would highly suggest Dr. Jen and doing at home. It was so much less stressful for Mollie rather than loading her in the car and taking her to our local vet. Dr. Jen also took care of all of the aftercare for Mollie, which made it less stressful for us.
We were very fortunate to have found Dr Laura. She made a difficult situation a little easier. She was so kind and compassionate to my husband, myself and of course our boy Gibbs. We didn’t feel the process was hurried as she took the time to make us and our boy comfortable and that we understood what would be taking place. Wanda was 14 years old. She was such a big part of our family, we couldn’t imagine saying goodbye to her at the vet’s office. Everyone was here with her, including Kiko our 6 year old rescue. Dr Melissa Goldberg really made our experience the absolute best it could be. She is so very kind and understanding , also accommodating. I scheduled an appointment and realized our 15yr old dog Buck was needing help sooner than later. Dr Goldberg had already texted me not long after booking , so I had her number. I asked her advice on waiting until the next evening, which is when we scheduled for . She made arrangements to come to our home that night instead. So kind. She explains the whole process, no surprises It is absolutely the most love you can show your animal. Our guy laid on his favorite spot on the couch, our whole family was home in the room with the him. He was completely comfortable with Dr Goldberg immediately, as were we. It is not an awkward experience. She understands the assignment and acts with care and compassion and allows the family to do what they need to do without intrusion. He fell asleep in the most peaceful way I think I ever saw, it was oddly beautiful. It was so the right time I realized. I can say without hesitation it was perhaps the best decision I’ve ever made if you can appreciate that. The gravity of making this decision is almost unbearable. But having him home , in his spot , with his family- just drifting off ? Literally priceless. I’ve never been more comfortable with a purchase. And I thank her and the service from the bottom of my heart.
