If your selected cremation service includes receiving your pet’s ashes, your vet will clearly explain the process for returning your pet's ashes and provide an estimated timeline for their return.
You have the option to have your vet respectfully transport your pet to the crematorium. Depending on your preference, your pet’s ashes can either be lovingly returned to you or respectfully spread with other pets.
Note: If you choose to have your pet’s ashes returned to you, your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes at the time of your appointment.

If you want to bury your pet in a cemetery, you will need to choose and make arrangements with a local pet cemetery before the euthanasia appointment. Please be sure to let your CodaPet vet know if you have planned for such a burial.
Note: Your vet can only assist with cremation options, and does not handle burials of any type.
If you have a larger pet, your vet may need the help of a friend or family member. When your vet contacts you prior to your appointment, talk to them about options and limitations, and they will inform you of any extra cost for your situation.
Options for your pet's return home and memorabilia depend on your local provider. Your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes and let you know if there are additional fees for urn delivery.
During in-home pet euthanasia, your veterinarian will first ensure your pet is comfortable by administering a gentle sedative, allowing your pet to relax peacefully. Once fully sedated, the veterinarian will give the euthanasia solution, which painlessly stops your pet's heart within moments. You'll have as much time as needed to say goodbye, and afterward, your veterinarian will discuss aftercare options with you, such as cremation or burial arrangements. Knowing when it’s time often involves observing your pet’s quality of life closely. Key signs include persistent pain, loss of appetite, decreased mobility, difficulty breathing, and loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed. Trust your instincts—if your pet has more bad days than good, it might be time. Discussing these concerns with your veterinarian can also provide valuable clarity.

Dr. Courtney White came out to our office on a Monday evening to put our precious shop cat down. We all loved our Mayer but he was 14 and had recently had surgery to repair a broken hip and just wasn't recovering well from the surgery. We didn't want him to suffer and new it was time to say goodbye. Dr. White was so kind and caring and made the whole process so much easier on Mayer and on us. We highly recommend using Dr. White and CodaPet if you find yourself in a situation where you need to say goodbye to your beloved pet. It was so wonderful to allow our special guy to pass in the place he is comfortable, without having to go for a scary ride in the car, and for his people to be able to surround him in those final moments in our comfortable place, too. Thank you so much, Dr. White! -Kristy & Payton, A&H

Dr. Meiners was just wonderful. She came to our home to put our kitty, Socks, to sleep. He had stopped eating, and stopped urinating. He was very sick. We had adopted him 5 months earlier, he had been in a shelter for 2 years prior. He was 10 years old. He had been described as skittish, but he had gotten more towards feral at the shelter. We were never able to pet him, but he was very sweet and was making progress, albeit slowly. We could not take him to the vet as we could not touch him. Dr. Meiners was exceedingly kind and patient and was able to do what had to be done. It was a sad day, we loved our little Socks kitty. Dr. Meiners was just exactly the right person in a delicate situation. We were lucky to have her here that day. Linda and John Kensey

this was our second time using Dr Whala , she again performed a mostly loving goodbye , i appreciate her soft spoken ways and compassion for us whole going through this most difficult time . we appreciate her so much .

Dr.Sara was so kind and comforting during our visit. She really made the process a little easier to deal with. I will definitely use her again when the time comes for my other fur baby to go meet her sister on the rainbow bridge.

Dr. Walton was extremely professional, caring, and humane during this difficult time with Charlie. She explained the process and gave the family as much time as needed. I highly recommend her during this very emotional time.

Dr. Sarah Crozier was absolutely incredible. My pup had terminal mammary cancer and had stopped being able to sit or lay down for comfort, and I made the terribly difficult decision to put her down. Dr. Crozier called me before my appointment date to get an understanding of my dog, and gave me time to ask any questions or air any concerns. When she arrived for our appointment time, she had a calm kind presence, and my pup immediately trusted her. She was so very kind through the whole process, moving at a pace I was comfortable with, and being so kind and friendly to my pup. She even had my sweet girl excited and happy for the treats her sedatives were hidden in. She asked questions about who my dog was and some of our very best memories, and she allowed me the honor of my dog passing peacefully in my lap, knowing she was loved and never knowing anything was wrong. She allowed me to assist in cleaning her up before leaving with her, and let me take all the time I needed saying goodbye. Losing my dog was more difficult than I could explain, but having Dr. Crozier to make the experience so gentle on my pup and I meant the world to me. She afforded us a beautiful last few minutes together, and made a horrible event so much better with her kindness, knowledge, and heart. Hugely and forever thankful for Dr. Crozier and her work.
