During your appointment, your vet will carefully confirm your preferred aftercare option with you. If your selected cremation service includes receiving your pet’s ashes, your vet will clearly explain the process for returning your pet's ashes and provide an estimated timeline for their return.
You have the option to have your vet respectfully transport your pet to the crematorium. Depending on your preference, your pet’s ashes can either be lovingly returned to you or respectfully spread with other pets.
Note: If you choose to have your pet’s ashes returned to you, your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes at the time of your appointment.

If you want to bury your pet in a cemetery, you will need to choose and make arrangements with a local pet cemetery before the euthanasia appointment. Please be sure to let your CodaPet vet know if you have planned for such a burial.
Note: Your vet can only assist with cremation options, and does not handle burials of any type.
If you have a larger pet, your vet may need the help of a friend or family member. When your vet contacts you prior to your appointment, talk to them about options and limitations, and they will inform you of any extra cost for your situation.
Options for your pet's return home and memorabilia depend on your local provider. Your vet will coordinate the return of your pet’s ashes and let you know if there are additional fees for urn delivery.
During in-home pet euthanasia, your veterinarian will first ensure your pet is comfortable by administering a gentle sedative, allowing your pet to relax peacefully. Once fully sedated, the veterinarian will give the euthanasia solution, which painlessly stops your pet's heart within moments. You'll have as much time as needed to say goodbye, and afterward, your veterinarian will discuss aftercare options with you, such as cremation or burial arrangements. Knowing when it’s time often involves observing your pet’s quality of life closely. Key signs include persistent pain, loss of appetite, decreased mobility, difficulty breathing, and loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed. Trust your instincts—if your pet has more bad days than good, it might be time. Discussing these concerns with your veterinarian can also provide valuable clarity.

I cant say enough kind words about Dr. Holman. She was professional, took her time and she was incredibly calm and patiently explained every step. She was amazing with my sweet pup, talking to her and making sure she was 100% comfortable.

If you’re considering in-home euthanasia, Dr. Gary Hsia is the person you want by your side. I had to say goodbye to my Great Dane — my lifelong best friend — and I truly couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate, peaceful experience. Dr. Hsia’s empathy was immediate and genuine. He walked into my home with calm, care, and deep respect for the bond I had with my dog. He didn’t rush anything. He gave us space, time, and dignity. The entire process felt gentle and sacred, which is exactly what my best friend deserved after a lifetime of unconditional love. If you’re facing this heartbreaking decision, know that it can be peaceful — and Dr. Hsia made that possible. I wouldn’t do it any other way. Forever grateful, —Erica

Finding a vet that will travel to your home and help with your aging pet is a blessing, that's Dr. Clem! Dr. Clem was very kind and gentle with our Mia girl, explaining the process and allowing as much time as we needed with our girl. She even inquired about stories of our pet and some fun memories we all will remember as well. There was great care and dignity taken by Dr. Clem when removing Mia. Dr. Clem helped us with this difficult process with great compassion and professionalism. Thank you Dr. Sarah Clem

For such a horrible situation, Dr. Jackson was very patient and let my family direct where we wanted to complete the process. Overall, I genuinely believe our girl was much more comfortable than she would have been in an office setting and she didn't seem anxious or in any pain with the help of the pre-medication. Although I hope to never have to do this again, I would repeat this process rather than go into a veterinarian office. Thank you Dr. Jackson for helping our girl finally be comfortable again.

Dr. Brielle was hands down the most compassionate Vet my husband and I have ever come across. She evaluated the situation and helped us in making the right decision for Ben. She explained everything and was never pushy and took all the time we needed for questions in making our decision. I would highly recommend her if you are making the decision on helping your love one pass over rainbow bridge. I thought it was very reasonable and 100 percent less stressful than the emergency vet. RIP Ben, momma and daddy loves you ❤️ 💙

Dr. Delia Gregory-Macdonald was so kind, compassionate and understanding of the difficult decision it was to put down our beloved dog Bandit -our rescue dog of 15 years and one that we had before having kids! Dr. Delia really understood how painful this decision was and took the time to talk with me over the process and my concerns. She even shared her experience with putting down a beloved dog-so she gets it. I miss my Bandit dearly, but I know she is in a better place and I am so thankful of the support Delia was able to provide during that difficult time. Highly recommend Dr. Delia Gregory-Macdonald.
