My girls name is Bella, she is 15 years old and down to 33Lbs as of September 22, 2026. - Bella has arthritis that started in her front right leg, and calcium buildup in her right shoulder. She has a noticeable limp. Over the past year or so her arthritis likely spread to her backend and her mobility has decreased quite a bit. She loses her balance, kind of wobbles, and it seems to be a bit difficult to get up at times. She also doesn't come up on the couch or bed much anymore even with stairs, and has lost a lot of muscle mass. I have runners throughout my house to help her. Bella also has chronic pancreatitis (since approx 2018), which limits food that I can put her on but I finally found food that doesn't make her sick, and managed her weight - Hills Science Diet: Perfect Weight. In May 2026, I was starting to notice that she had been eating less and she was losing weight. I took her to the vet had lost 4lbs since February 2026 (40lb down to 36lb, she would stay around 44-42lbs when she was younger). Bellas blood work, and Urinalysis showed her IDEXX SDMA, Creatinine, Urea (BUN) and Lymphocytes were all elevated. Her urine protein was +1 and specific gravity was 1.017. The vet said she possibly has stage 2 Kidney disease, or renal lymphoma. Obviously the only way to find out for sure is getting an ultrasound of her abdominal area. However, I decided not to go that route due to her age, and the results likely won't change the outlook (I would not put her through chemo etc). The vet and I still both agreed that the top priority is Bella's comfort. As of August 13, 2026 her lymphcytes have since decreased which is good news, CLL is not likely), but she had lost almost another 3lbs. She hasn't been enjoying her walks as much. Most of the time she turns around to go home. I got her a stroller which she enjoys! Bella has started to have more frequent accidents in the house, mostly early in the morning (mostly healthy poops, but also some bad ones). Occasional pee accidents but I have been taking her out more frequently (every 2.5 to 3 hours) She is still eating less. I add toppers to her meals and she still doesn't always want it. I'd say she's down to 1.25 meals on her good days. She still loves her treats! Her energy level has been declining, but still wants to play a little bit most days, and loves her toys. She is currently on Presidone, Benazepril, Gabapentin, joint supplements and probiotics. She gets Ketamine injections every two weeks, Cartrophen and physiotherapy every three weeks. I occasionally give her CBD oil as she has been getting a bit restless at night. On September 21, 2026 I noticed she broke a tooth, which I brought her to the vet to get looked at. We have opted to let the tooth fall out as its 'hanging by a thread'. The vet said it likely isn't causing her much pain but if she was younger and healthy, we would put her under sedation had have it removed. I want her to start feeling better and gain some weight back but I'm starting to wonder when I should be saying goodbye. Her weight and comfort are my main concerns. Thanks for reading!
